With the increasing amount of people working from home, the demand for loft conversion steel beams has become very high. No matter if it’s a big corporate project or a small residential job – we’re always happy to help. And, more importantly, always with the same attention to details! From initial drawings to the final result, we at MAH Steel thoroughly check through the whole process to keep everything under control.

Another loft conversion in Kent required some fabricated steel beams. This project was located in Orpington – the area we know so well due to the close location of our steelwork factory.

This time we received a drawing from our customer. You can see it on the right hand side. So, we turned it into a drawing that our customer could sign off!

Once the plan has been approved, steel fabrication CAD drawings were produced. With all preliminary checks complete, it’s time for transportation to the saw!

Crazy about Cranks and Cranes

We don’t just provide steel fabrication services, we offer a complete package from initial concept to final steel installation. So, once the drawings have been issued, steel gets to our yard by our trusted steel supplier, and offloaded by our loading team.

After that, our skilled saw team make themselves familiar with what’s required and check all steel against the cutting list. The team saw all the necessary parts to the correct length using the latest technology, ensuring it’s perfect till the finest mm. To ensure the correct cut lengths are achievable, the end must be cleaned up and squared off.

Once we cut the material, then we transport it by a forklift to the steel fabrication area, ready for our experienced steel fab team to start the project. Our workshop manager issues job tickets and Tekla drawings. Before the steel fabrication team start, our in-house inspector checks all material once again! It’s very important to pay such attention to details every step of the way. Quality control is the key!

So, once the steel has been manufactured, it’s then checked again. It’s crucial to make sure the steel beams are the right sizes, and they line up with end plates. It’s important not just for loft conversion steel beams, but for all kinds of steelwork manufacturing as well.

Finishing touches

So, the fabricated steel is taken to our paint shop to be painted. It is then checked for the paint’s thickness and laid out in the yard. Steel finishes are very important as it’s not just about the aesthetics – they prevent fabricated steel from corrosion as well. We also use them to reduce surface roughness – you can’t achieve that effect only using the machines.

Once again, it’s checked by the loading team that all steel is correct to the delivery notes, and then it is loaded onto one of our crane lorries. After that, it gets delivered to the site, to exactly where it is needed inside the loft.

The customer is then asked to check if they are happy, and all is correct. Clients are our priority, and we maintain our client relationships with trust on every steel project, so everything has to be spot on. The job is then signed off.
