Quality control at MAH Steel – step by step

At MAH Steel, quality control isn’t a single check at the end of a job. It’s a continuous process that starts before any steel is cut and continues until the finished fabrication is safely delivered to site.

Every project begins with a detailed review of drawings, calculations, and specifications. Dimensions, loads, connection details, and tolerances are carefully checked, and anything unclear is discussed directly with engineers or clients. Taking the time to get this right at the start prevents issues later and ensures fabrication runs smoothly.

Once the information is confirmed, material selection follows. The correct steel grade and section sizes are verified against the drawings, and each piece is inspected for damage, warping, or defects. If the steel doesn’t match the specification exactly, fabrication doesn’t move forward. Starting with the right material is essential to the quality of the finished structure.

Accuracy is critical throughout the workshop stage. Measurements are checked thoroughly before any cutting or drilling takes place, with clear marking to ensure everything aligns precisely. Allowances are made for finishes such as galvanising or painting, so the steel fits correctly when installed on site.

Cutting and drilling are carried out in a controlled manner to achieve clean edges and accurate hole positions. All edges are properly finished and deburred, improving both safety and fit. The goal is always the same: steel that arrives on site ready to install, not ready to adjust.

Welding is monitored continuously as fabrication progresses. The correct welding methods are used for each application, joints are prepared carefully, and welds are visually inspected for consistency and strength. Structural integrity always comes first, with appearance secondary to performance.

For more complex fabrications, components may be trial-assembled in the workshop. This allows bolt alignment, connections, and overall fit to be checked before finishing, reducing the risk of delays or unexpected issues during installation.

Before steel leaves the workshop, surface preparation and finishing are carefully controlled. Whether the steel is being primed, painted, or galvanised, finishes are applied properly and checked for coverage and protection, helping to extend the lifespan of the structure.

A final inspection takes place before dispatch, with each fabrication checked against the drawings, clearly labelled, and prepared in the correct delivery sequence. Steel is then loaded securely, protected during transport, and delivered to site in the same condition it left the workshop.

Quality control doesn’t end once the steel is installed. Feedback from site teams is used to refine processes, improve coordination, and continually raise standards across future projects.

Quality control at MAH Steel isn’t about ticking boxes – it’s about responsibility. The steel we fabricate supports homes, buildings, and people, which is why every step matters.
