From initial drawings to the final result, we at MAH Steel thoroughly check through the whole process to keep everything under control.
Another loft conversion in Cambridgeshire required some fabricated steel beams.
The process
The customer contacted MAH Steel, needing fabricated steels for a loft with Hiab lift with special plates fabricated.
The steel was in stock, and so we were able to process the job speedily. From taking the order, it was processed and sent straight to our steel workshop for processing. We don’t just provide steel fabrication services, we offer a complete package from initial concept to final steel installation. So, once the drawings have been issued, steel gets to our yard by our trusted steel supplier, and offloaded by our loading team.
The steel was then selected from our large stock facility and taken to the saw, sawn to the correct length.
The cut lengths were then transferred to the steel fabrication area, where it was checked by the steel fabrication team to ensure the steels were the correct cut length before the fabrication process began. In this case our brilliant welding fabrication team welded the steel, and then aligned special plates for butt splices.
Steel fabrication was then checked by our in-house QA team. They also check welding and drilling results to ensure that holes, plates and fabrication specifications were adhered to and that they lined up as required.
Spreader plates were cut and prepared in our plates area, ready to be joined with the main job.
Next is blasting and painting!
Using the correct thickness of paint in microns, and then hung in the yard to dry.
Prior to loading, the painted fabricated steel was then visually checked by the QA and loading teams, that all steel was correct to the instruction. Then they add bolts, nuts, washers and packing plates (if required) to complete the job. Steel bolts and nuts are essential components in a variety of construction projects, from building bridges to securing furniture.
If you’ve ever seen an item that has been bolted together, chances are it was done with steel bolts and nuts. Steel bolts are metal rods with threads along their entire length, while nuts are hexagonal pieces with internal threads that match the threads on the bolt. When these two components are combined, they form a strong steel connection that can hold two objects together securely.
So, after all that, the steel was then loaded on to our 15 metre hiab lorry! The driver checks the lorry and the load ready for an early start. Then it is delivered to site and placed where it was required – this time, exactly to the roof!
Our clients verdict
“ Nick is very helpful, as are all at MAH Steel, I can rely on them to get things right – on the very rare occasion things don’t go to plan, they are lightening fast in getting a solution so that it has minimal impact on site. This job was another order for them – they are brilliant! ”
