Project scope

When one of our long-term clients approached us with a unique challenge, we were immediately intrigued. They needed steel vault covers to protect pipework beneath a busy London road, but the covers also had to allow easy access whenever required. They trusted MAH Steel to supply the steel, while they would take care of the installation themselves.

We started by visiting the site to understand the environment and potential obstacles. Our in-house draftsmen then worked closely with the client’s design team in the USA, refining the drawings and making sure every detail was just right. This back-and-forth may have taken time, but it meant that when fabrication began, everything would fit perfectly.

With designs approved, we sourced the steel and brought it into our workshop. Each piece was carefully checked before being cut to the exact dimensions. Our skilled fabricators assembled the steel according to the drawings, while our QA team ensured that all holes, plates, and connections were precise. This attention to detail meant that the installation process would be smooth and hassle-free.

Because the vault covers would be exposed to the elements and daily traffic, we shot-blasted the steel and then hot-dip galvanised it for long-lasting protection. Once galvanised, bolts, nuts, and steel-to-steel fixings were added, completing the assembly. The finished pieces were loaded carefully onto our lorry and delivered right on schedule.

The client installed the vault covers over a few days, with everything lining up perfectly. The project was completed on time, to specification, and to a high standard. It’s another example of how careful planning, precise fabrication, and attention to detail make a difference – and another satisfied client who we’re confident will continue working with MAH Steel in the future.
