Project scope

When a new client approached us about a challenging project in London, we were ready to deliver a cost-effective steel solution. They had been appointed as main contractors to transform an old underground toilet block into a trendy new bar and restaurant, and needed high-quality steel fabricated for the structure. After reviewing their requirements and schedule, we provided a detailed quote, which they accepted, placing an order for us to supply the steel for installation.

Our team began with a thorough site survey, ensuring we could produce accurate drawings that accounted for every detail, including obstacles like the existing balustrade around the toilet stairwell. Using these surveys, our in-house draftsmen created precise plans that guided the fabrication process from start to finish. Once approved, the steels were sourced from our trusted suppliers and transported to our workshop, where every piece was checked before cutting.

The steel was sawn to exact dimensions and fabricated to ensure all connection details were correct. Our coded fabricators worked closely with the confirmed drawings, producing each piece to specification. Every stage underwent rigorous in-house quality assurance checks, confirming holes, plates, and fabrication details aligned perfectly to make installation smooth and straightforward.

Once fabrication was complete, the steel underwent a blasting and painting process before hot-dip galvanisation. This galvanisation involved coating the steel in molten zinc, creating a protective layer that guards against corrosion and rust, which was especially important since the structure would be installed outdoors and exposed to the elements. This step ensures the steel remains strong and durable for many years, maintaining both safety and aesthetic appeal.

After galvanisation, bolts, fixings, nuts, and washers were added to complete the structure, which was then carefully loaded onto our lorry for delivery. The client installed the steel over several weeks, transforming the underground space into a stylish restaurant. Another project successfully delivered, resulting in a satisfied customer and many more orders in the pipeline for MAH Steel.
