A new client needed a steel beam fabricated and installed to support existing steelwork in a basement renovation with limited access. We spliced the beam into three sections so it could be installed in the restricted space.

Project overview
A new client in London approached us needing a steel beam fabricated and installed to support existing steelwork in a basement renovation project.
How we did it
Fabrication
Our in-house draftsmen worked with the client to produce precise fabrication drawings. Once these were finalised, we sourced the steel sections from our wholesaler and checked each section against the cutting list before sawing it to length. Our fabricators carried out the fabrication so that the connection and splice details would line up for installation, and our quality assurance team inspected each component against the approved drawings.
Finish and delivery
The sections were blasted and painted with a zinc phosphate primer at the correct thickness in microns. Once dry, they were loaded onto one of our lorries for delivery to site.

Spliced beam delivered and installed in the restricted basement space, with the customer reporting a simple process from design to installation
