Project overview
A regular customer needed structural steel for a refurbishment project in Chinatown, Central London. They placed their order early in the week, and we booked the steel to arrive within two working days.
How we did it
Fabrication
We selected the steel from our stock and our team checked it against the cutting list before sawing it to length. In the fabrication area the lengths were checked again, the cut ends were cleaned up, and butt splice plates were put on the ends, prepared and tack-welded into place. The fabrication was checked by our in-house quality assurance team, then fully welded to the specification and drilled, and checked again to make sure holes, plates and the fabrication matched the engineer's specification.
Finish and delivery
The steel was sand blasted and painted with phosphate primer to the correct thickness, and hung in the yard to dry. The quality assurance and loading teams checked it again, the bolts, steel-to-steel fixings, nuts, washers and packing plates were added, and the steel was loaded onto our 30-metre Hiab lorry for a 5am start. It was delivered to site in London's West End and placed where the customer needed it, through the doorway.
