Project overview
A regular customer contacted MAH Steel needing fabricated steels for a residential extension in Blackheath, using a goal post frame and a straight cut ridge beam, with a Hiab offload through a doorway. We issued a general arrangement drawing and the customer agreed straight away, so the steel went to the yard for fabrication.
The steel was in stock: 203x203x60, 203x203x46 and 203x133x25 sections.
Work delivered
Fabrication
The workshop acknowledged the order and the steel was selected from stock, taken to the saw by forklift, checked off against the cutting list and sawn to length. The cut lengths went to the fabrication bays, where the fabrication and QA team checked them before work began. After the cut ends were prepared, the end plates and connections were added. The welding and drilling were checked to make sure the holes, plates and fabrication specifications were followed and lined up.
Finish and delivery
The steels were sandblasted for priming and suspended in the yard to dry. Before loading they were checked again, and steel-to-steel fixings (bolts, nuts and washers) were added. The steel was loaded onto our 15-metre Hiab lorry, and the driver checked the load ready for an early start. On site it was placed where the customer needed it, through the back door.
