Project scope

A regular customer contacted MAH Steel, needing fabricated steels for an extension using a goal post frame and a straight cut ridge beam, with a hiab offload through a doorway! We issued a GA and the customer agreed straight away, so we sent the steel to the yard for fabrication.  

The steel was in stock in this case 203x203x60, 203x203x46 and 203x133x25 and we processed everything very quickly. 

The workshop acknowledged the order, then we selected the steel from our large stock facility. We fork lifted it to cut, checked off against the cutting list and then sawn to the correct length.

After that, we transferred the cut lengths to our fabrication bays, where it was checked by the fabrication and QA team. They ensured the steels were all correct before the fabrication process began.  

After preparing the cut ends, we added the relevant end plates and connections into the fabrication process.

We checked all welding and drilling fabrication to ensure that holes, plates and fabrication specifications were followed and that they lined up as required. We’re ensuring accuracy at every phase of the process!

We then sandblasted the extension fabricated steels for priming, and then suspended them in the yard to dry.

Delivery

Prior to loading the painted fabricated steel was then visually checked again, that all steel was correctly fabricated to requirements. Then steel-to-steel fixings are added – bolts, nuts and washers to conclude the job and its parts.

Defects checked for – there were none on this job. Then we loaded the fabricated steel onto our 15 metre hiab lorry, the driver checked the load ready for an early start and then it was delivered to site and placed where the customer needed it. Through the back door!
