Steel beams for a residential extension in South East London, lifted over the house by Hiab

Project overview

A customer in South East London contacted us with detailed requirements for fabricated steel beams to support a new extension. The steel sections were already in our stock at our Kent workshop, so we could start processing the order straight away.

How we did it

Cutting and fabrication

The correct sections were selected from our stock, taken by forklift to the cutting station and cut to the customer's specification, with every measurement double-checked. In the fabrication bay the measurements were verified again, the ends cleaned, and end plates and connections attached. Holes were drilled and the welds aligned to match the customer's design.

Finish and delivery

The beams were sand-blasted and painted, then left to dry before being re-inspected by our workshop manager. The bolts, nuts, washers and packing plates were added and checked off against the order list. We loaded the beams onto our 30-metre-reach Hiab lorry and delivered them directly to the customer's home, lifting them over to the rear of the property exactly where they were needed.

• Beams delivered and lifted over the house to the rear of the property, where they were needed
