Steel for a rear residential extension in South West London, delivered two days after the order

Project overview

A regular customer came to us for structural steel for a rear residential extension in South West London. As soon as they placed their order we prepared the fabrication drawings and scheduled the steel for delivery two days later.

Fabrication

We selected the steel from our in-house stock and took it to the cutting area, where our technicians checked it against the cutting list and cut each section. The steel then went to the fabrication area, where all measurements were double-checked before the components were assembled to the customer's confirmed drawings. Our QA team inspected the work, checking dimensions, weld integrity and the alignment of holes and connection plates.

Finish and delivery

The steel was blasted and given a zinc phosphate primer to the correct thickness in microns, then hung in the yard to dry. The QA and loading teams checked it again, and bolts, steel-to-steel fixings, nuts, washers and packing plates were added. It was loaded onto our 30-metre Hiab truck and, at 5am, delivered to the site, where our driver used the crane to place the steel where the customer needed it.

Outcome

• Steel delivered two days after the order and placed where the customer needed it
