With that comes a steady demand for steel fabrication – the backbone of most modern extensions. Cranked roof beams, box frames and structural supports need to be measured, cut and finished with absolute precision, otherwise the whole project can stall. That’s where trusted fabricators come in.

We first heard from this particular client in North West London when they got in touch about steels for their first-floor extension. They needed cranked roof beams, and they needed them quickly. After sending over a clear quotation, they decided to move forward with us, placing an order for supply only, as they’d be handling the installation themselves.

The next step was a site survey. Our in-house draftsmen visited to take all the details, especially the tricky angles involved with the cranked beams. From this, we drew up precise fabrication drawings so that everything would be ready for manufacture without a hitch.

Once the steel arrived from our wholesaler, it was carefully checked over in the workshop before the cutting began. Each section was sawn to the correct length and fabricated in line with the approved drawings, with our coded fabricators making sure every detail was spot on. Accuracy was key here – from the bolt holes to the plates – so our QA team double-checked everything to make sure it would fit perfectly once on site.

After fabrication, the steels were blasted and painted with a zinc phosphate primer at the correct thickness, then hung in the yard to dry. Bolts, nuts, washers and fixings were added to complete the package before it was loaded onto one of our lorries, ready for delivery.

The client installed the steels themselves, starting with the two main frames, which then formed the core of the extension. From there, the rest of the build could take shape around the structure we’d supplied.

The job went smoothly, the steels fit exactly as planned, and the client was delighted with the result. For us, it was another reminder of why precision at every stage – from survey and drawings right through to fabrication and finishing – makes such a difference. Another happy customer, and hopefully the first of many more projects with them.
