Project overview
A loft conversion in Orpington needed fabricated steel beams. We received a drawing from the customer and turned it into a drawing they could sign off. Once the plan was approved, we produced the steel fabrication CAD drawings.
Work delivered
Fabrication
The steel reached our yard from our steel supplier and was offloaded by our loading team. Our saw team checked all the steel against the cutting list and sawed it to length, cleaning and squaring off the ends. A forklift took it to the fabrication area, where our workshop manager issued the job tickets and Tekla drawings and our in-house inspector checked the material. After manufacture, the steel was checked again to make sure the beams were the right sizes and lined up with their end plates.
Finish and delivery
The steel was painted in our paint shop and checked for paint thickness, then laid out in the yard. The loading team checked it against the delivery notes and loaded it onto one of our crane lorries, which delivered it to site, to exactly where it was needed inside the loft. The customer was asked to check that they were happy and that everything was correct, and the job was signed off.
