Project scope

This residential rear extension needs a goal post frame and connecting steels – MAH Steel fabricators have got it covered!

Firstly, we pick structural steel, delivered from our selected and trusted European suppliers. Secondly, as with all steel deliveries, we deliver it to our yard and thoroughly check it for any defects. Then our highly experienced fork truck team offloads the steel safe and sound.

Then we transfer the steel to the cutting area. It’s not a simple process at all! Here at MAH we check it off against the cutting list, making it perfect for this particular project. Then we saw it to the correct lengths, then we check it again – we don’t want the steel to be wrong!  

After that, we transport the cut lengths to the fabrication area, and check it by one of our fabricators to ensure the length is correct before fabrication process starts. To be precise, the team clean and mark out all cut ends for drilling. Our fabricator puts all end plates and connecting plates into the correct position. Accuracy and concentration are critical at this stage!

The team checks the fabrication results. Then the drilling team drills holes for the residential rear extension. After this, our highly qualified welders finally fully weld it up to the highest standard with precision.

At the end of this process, we check welding and drilling again. Most importantly, we ensure that holes, end plates and fabrication specifications from the engineering drawings adhere correctly! Quality control is very important on every stage of the process.

Finishing touches and delivery

To complete the the steel and make it ready for the extension project, it needs to have finishes applied. The fabricated steel gets blasted and painted with the correct paint and the correct thickness of paint applied, and then is hung to dry in the yard.
The steel gets visually checked by the loading team again – it must be correct to the notes! Then, if required, they add bolts, nuts and washers and packing plates. After that steel gets loaded onto our hi-ab lorry. It’s very important that the driver personally checks the load – we don’t want to miss a thing! Also, thanks to our crane fitted vehicles, we deliver steel beams directly to the roof if you’d prefer.

So, when the steel is finally delivered to the site and placed where the customer wants it, it’s ready to be installed – exciting! In this case, our customer wanted it through and into the garage and garden. So, the steel is ready for installation!

At this point, all the work is checked by our team and most importantly, also by the clients. On approval, all the final bolts are done up and made sure to be secure and safe. Nothing is signed off until the client says so. Only once they thoroughly check the work and happy that all is complete and correct do we class it as being given the sign off. Another MAH Steel job well done!
