Project scope

Being located in Gravesend means we’re just a stone’s throw away from London. So a project in Greenwich is no problem for our team and drivers. A residential project in Meadowcourt Road, SE3 9DY requires an order of steel with a quick turnaround to their site – MAH Steel have it covered.

With this particular project, the client sent an enquiry to our team on Monday. Once we discuss the requirements, measurements, finishes and any additions, our team get to work. Without skipping a beat – or a quality check – we deliver the steel to our client that Thursday.

Residential steel requirements 

In order to have all requirements met, we order in the neccessary steel for each residential project. Once we have delivery to our yard, our loading team step in. They do an in depth check of all pieces before moving the steel via fork truck. With the steel place for the cutting and saw teams, they check the project cutting list to avoid any confusion. Once they confirm, the steel is put in place on the fabrication saw, cut to the correct lengths and put through fabricator checks.

All cut lengths of steel need cleaning and marking up before passing them over to the drilling team. Once our in house inspector signs them off, the hole drilling begins. The steel end plates and connecting plates also go over to the welders. As with every step of the process, we check all work again, making sure the holes are correct and the beams with end plates line up.

Finishing, Delivery & Erection

Paint and finishing is next on the list! All the residential steel beams transfer over to our paint shop, ready for painting. At the end of the process our inspector checks all pieces for thickness and consistency, before having it laid out in our yard. It is vital that we carry out these checks regularly to ensure that our trusted quality and high standards are met every step of the way. With this in mind, the MAH Steel loading team ensure that all steel is correct against the delivery notes. In the very, very rare chance there may be an error or item missing, we need to spot this before they load anything on to our trucks.

With all items receiving approval, the team load them on to our crane lorry and get ready to deliver to the project site. As this is a residential steel project it’s essential we follow all health and safety protocol. Our skilled and experienced drivers transport the steel to the Blackheath location and unload all steel exactly where it’s needed. Once in position, the site facing MAH Steel team erect and position all the steel components into place. As this point, all the work is checked by our team and also by the clients. On approval, all the final bolts are done up and made sure to be secure and safe. Nothing is signed off until the client says so. Only once they thoroughly check the work and happy that all is complete and correct do we class it as being given the sign off. Another MAH Steel job well done!
