At MAH Steel, we recently completed a structural steel fabrication project for a residential extension in Havering, East London. This job was a great example of how our team brings together experience, care, and solid communication to deliver exactly what the client needs – on time and without stress.

The client needed a set of fabricated steel beams for a rear extension and loft conversion. Due to access limitations at the back of the house, some of the steel had to be craned directly over the building and into the loft. After discussing the project in detail and finalising the fabrication drawings, we began the manufacturing process.

Steel fabrication in Havering for growing home extension needs

We started by selecting the right type of structural steel from our large stock. Every beam was checked off against the cutting list, then cut to exact lengths using our in-house equipment. Once cut, the steel moved to our fabrication area. Here, the fabrication team double-checked each piece to make sure the lengths were spot on before getting to work.

All fabrication was carried out by our coded welders, who followed the approved drawings precisely. After each stage – cutting, welding, drilling – our in-house quality control team reviewed the work to ensure every plate, hole, and weld met the engineer’s spec. This attention to detail helps avoid surprises later on site and makes the install process smooth and accurate.

After fabrication, we moved on to blasting and painting. For this job, we applied a zinc phosphate primer, carefully painted to the correct thickness in microns, then left the steel to dry properly in the yard. Even at this stage, the QA team and the loading team worked together to make sure everything was finished, painted, and ready to go.

From steel cutting to finishing – our step-by-step fabrication process

The final step was loading the steel onto our 30-metre HIAB lorry. Our driver, as always, checked the loads thoroughly before heading to site bright and early for a 5am delivery. The steels were craned over the house and into place just as planned – everything fit perfectly thanks to the careful fabrication and planning done beforehand. Another smooth install and another happy client.
