Project overview
A custom steel portal frame for a residential rear extension in Gidea Park, Havering. The project began with a consultation with the client, in which we finalised the design requirements and provided a quote. Once the quote was approved, we produced steel drawings to guide manufacture.
Work delivered
Fabrication
We selected the steel from our stock. In our cutting area each piece was checked against the cutting list and cut to length. The cut steel went to the fabrication area, where our fabricators checked each beam before welding and assembly. Fabrication included drilling holes for connections and attaching plates as specified. After fabrication, our in-house QA team checked the dimensions, the alignment of drilled holes and the engineer's specification.
Finish and delivery
The steel was coated with a zinc phosphate primer at the correct thickness in microns. After it had dried it was inspected again, and bolts, nuts, washers and packing plates were added. The beams were loaded onto our 30-metre Hiab, and the driver made a final load check ahead of an early-morning delivery. The steel was placed at the client's site directly over the back of the house, ready for installation.
