Steel for a small home extension in Hornchurch, designed and delivered in three days

Project overview

A customer in Hornchurch needed structural steel for a small home extension. We designed the steel in-house, had the drawings approved by the customer, fabricated it at our workshop and delivered it to site.

How we did it

Design and fabrication

We assessed the steel needed, designed it in-house and presented the drawings to the customer for approval. The steel was chosen from our stock and cut to length. In the fabrication area it was checked for correct dimensions, welded, drilled and prepared to the approved drawings and the structural engineer's requirements.

Finish and delivery

The steels were primed with zinc phosphate to the required thickness and left to dry in our yard. After a final check by our quality assurance and loading teams, they were loaded onto our 30-metre Hiab lorry and delivered at 5am the next morning, and positioned right over the back of the customer's house.

Outcome

• Designed, fabricated and delivered within three days (the original write-up)
• The customer said the speed saved them from missing their deadlines
