A large residential construction project in Whitstable needed structural steel, including components with complex angles that took careful reading of the engineering drawings.
Work delivered
Fabrication
After delivery the steel was inspected and offloaded with our side-loader forklifts, then cut on our saws to the cutting list and checked. In the fabrication area the cut ends were cleaned and marked for drilling and tack-welding of the end plates and connecting plates. The complex angles on this project meant interpreting the engineering drawings carefully. The drilling team drilled the holes before the steel was fully welded to the engineer's specification, and quality checks ran through the welding and drilling.
Finish and delivery
The steel was blasted and painted with a coating to the specified thickness, which mattered given the coastal setting, and hung to dry in the yard. The loading team checked every component against the specification and added bolts, nuts, washers and packing plates where necessary. Our 30-metre Hiab lorry was loaded early in the morning, and on site in Whitstable the Hiab was used to help fit the steel directly, handing it over to the construction team.
