Large construction project in Whitstable

This Whitstable project demonstrated our capability to handle large-scale construction demands with precision and efficiency. We sourced structural steel from CE-accredited suppliers, which ensure compliance with European safety, health, and environmental protection standards. After delivery, our team meticulously inspected and offloaded the steel using our side-loader 4.5-tonne forklifts, streamlining the process to avoid delays.

We transferred the steel to our cutting area, where one of our three advanced saws precisely cut each piece. The team cross-checked each cut against the cutting list to maintain accuracy, minimise waste, and guarantee consistency. Next, the cut lengths were transported to the fabrication area, where fabricators verified the measurements before proceeding with their work.

Our team cleaned the cut ends and marked positions for drilling and tack welding end plates and connecting plates. Complex angles on this project required careful interpretation of engineering drawings and meticulous execution. The drilling team then created perfectly aligned holes before passing the components to fabricators for full welding, adhering to the engineer’s specifications.

Throughout the welding and drilling process, our team conducted stringent quality checks to ensure compliance with design and engineering requirements. Once fabrication was complete, the steel moved to surface preparation. We blasted and painted the components with a durable industrial-grade coating, applying the specified thickness for optimal corrosion resistance. This was particularly important given the coastal environment. After painting, we hung the steel to dry under controlled conditions in our yard.

Steel delivery and erection

The final stage involved a thorough inspection by our loading team, who ensured every component matched the project specifications. They added bolts, nuts, washers, and packing plates where necessary, and prepared the steel for delivery. Our 30-meter Hiab lorry was loaded early in the morning, with our driver double-checking the load for safety and accuracy. Once on-site in Whitstable, the Hiab crane allowed us to assist in fitting the steel directly, ensuring a seamless handover to the construction team.
