Project overview
Another regular customer needed structural steel for a large home extension in Hertfordshire. After the order was placed, we produced the drawings and booked the steel from our supplier. The material arrived five days after the initial order.
Work delivered
Fabrication
We chose the steel from our stock, took it for cutting, checked it against the cutting list and sawed it to length. In the fabrication area our team checked the cut lengths before the fabrication started, which followed the confirmed drawings. Our in-house QA team checked the fabrication, the steel sections were fully welded to specification and drilled, and QA checked again that the holes, plates and specifications lined up.
Finish and delivery
The steel was blasted and painted with a zinc phosphate primer to the correct thickness in microns, and hung in the yard to dry. The QA and loading teams checked the steel again, and bolts, steel-to-steel fixings, packing plates, nuts and washers were added. It was loaded onto our 30-metre Hiab lorry, with the driver checking the load ready for a 5am start. It was delivered to site and placed where the customer needed it, right over the back of the house.
