At MAH Steel, we recently undertook a project that showcased our expertise in steel fabrication for a residential extension. This case study details the entire process, from procurement to on-site delivery, demonstrating our commitment to quality and precision.

Our client, a property developer working on a large residential extension in South East England, required a series of custom steel beams and connection plates to support the new structure. The steel needed to be fabricated to exact specifications, ensuring a seamless installation on-site.

The project began with the sourcing of specialised structural steel, selected to meet the load-bearing requirements of the extension. Once it arrived at our site, our team conducted a thorough inspection to confirm quality and compliance with industry standards. Using our reliable fork trucks, the steel was carefully unloaded, preventing any damage during handling.

With the raw steel ready, it moved to the cutting area, where our team meticulously checked it against the project’s cutting list. Each cut was made with precision, ensuring the steel met the exact lengths required for the build. To guarantee accuracy, our Quality Assurance (QA) team performed a final check before progressing to the next phase.

The prepared steel sections entered the fabrication zone, where our skilled fabricators double-checked measurements before commencing work. The cut ends were cleaned and marked for drilling, setting the stage for the attachment of end plates and connection plates. These plates were tack-welded into place, ensuring proper alignment.

Our drilling team then carefully created holes according to the engineering drawings, guaranteeing precision. Once the holes were complete, the steel underwent full welding, adhering to strict engineering standards. Every weld was scrutinised to ensure durability and compliance with the project’s structural integrity requirements.

Following fabrication, the steel advanced to the blasting and painting stage. Here, impurities were removed to create a smooth surface, and the steel was coated to the required finish and thickness. This protective layer ensured durability and resistance to environmental conditions. The finished sections were then hung to dry in the yard, allowing the coating to cure properly.

Before dispatch, our loading team meticulously verified every piece against the project’s specifications. All necessary components, including bolts, nuts, washers, and packing plates, were gathered and prepared for transport. Each steel section was carefully loaded onto our hi-ab lorry, and a final inspection was carried out by the driver to ensure accuracy and security.

Delivery and on-site positioning

The final step involved delivering the fabricated steel to the client’s site. Our team coordinated the logistics to ensure a smooth delivery, positioning the steel exactly where it was needed for installation. The precision of our process enabled the construction team to proceed without delays, contributing to the successful completion of the extension.
