Loft conversion steel for Essex, from Monday call to Hiab lift within 48 hours

Project overview

A loft conversion in Essex, just across the Dartford Crossing from our workshop. The customer needed fabricated steel beams for the conversion.

How we did it

Fabrication

The steel was picked from stock and taken to the saw by forklift, after being checked against the cutting list, and sawn to length. The cut lengths were taken to the fabrication area and checked again by the fabricator for the correct length. Our team cleaned up the sawn ends and tack welded the splice plates into position. Our in-house QA team then checked the fabrication before it was fully welded to specification, and checked the welding and drilling again for holes, end plates and specifications. Spreader plates were cut and prepared in our plates area, ready to go with the main job.

Finish and delivery

The steel went to the paint shop for blasting and painting, with the paint at the correct thickness, and was hung in the yard. The QA and loading teams checked it again, and bolts, nuts, washers and packing plates (if required) were added. It was loaded onto our Hiab lorry, and the driver checked the load ready for an early start. The steel was delivered and placed where the customer wanted it, all within 48 hours.
