Project scope
Smaller scale steel projects, such as a loft conversion, require just as much care and attention as larger scale ones. This particular project was located in Essex, just across the Dartford Crossing from our workshop! This job required some fabricated steel beams for a loft conversion. That’s a lovely type of job we’re always happy to help with!
So, let’s start!
The customer called on Monday, needing fabricated steels for a loft conversion with hiab lift on Wednesday. These tight time frames weren’t a problem for us at all! The steel was in stock, so we processed the job very quickly. It was sent down to our steel fabrication workshop the first thing.
The steel was picked from our large stock facility and taken to the saw by forklift. Prior to that, we thoroughly checked it off against the cutting list, and then sawn to the correct length. We carry out all our CNC Steel Profiling services to the finest millimetre. And it’s not just that! The quality control undergo on every stage of every project. After the job was done, the cut lengths were taken to the steel fabrication area, where it was checked by the steel fabricator again. The main goal of this step was to ensure that the steel beams were the correct cut length before starting the steel fabrication process.
Then, our skilled saw team cleaned up the sawn ends, and tack welded plates for splices into position. Structural steel fabrication then was checked by our in-house QA team and then passed through to be fully welded to specification. Welding fabrication and steel drilling were checked again by the in-house QA team to ensure that holes, end plates and all metal fabrication specifications were adhered to and that they lined up as required. Our skilled welders hold all the necessary qualifications to complete every job to the highest standard! As with all the team at MAH Steel.
Last but not least, spreader plates were cut and prepared in our plates area, ready to be collated with the main job.
Ready for Delivery
The fabricated steel then was delivered to our paint shop for blasting and painting, the correct thickness of paint applied and then we hung it in the yard.
Prior to loading the painted fabricated steel, it was visually checked by the QA and loading teams again. We always want to make sure that all fabricated steel is correct to the instruction! Only after this they add bolts, nuts, washers and packing plates (if required) to complete the job.
The steel was then loaded on to our hiab lorry. The driver checked the load ready for an early start, and then it was delivered to the site and placed exactly where our customer wanted it. All within 48 hours. That’s the steelwork company we are, always keeping our promises! And that’s exactly what this job in Essex needed!
