Steel beams for a loft conversion in Chelmsford, delivered at 5am and placed at the rear of the house

Project overview

A regular customer asked for structural steel beams for a loft conversion in Chelmsford. After a site survey we produced detailed drawings and sent them for approval. Once the customer confirmed the plans, they placed the order and we began fabrication to deliver within the same week.

Fabrication

We selected the steel sections from our stock and checked each piece against the cutting list before sawing it to length. In the fabrication area the dimensions were double-checked before work started, and the work followed the confirmed engineering drawings. Our in-house QA team inspected the steel before, during and after fabrication. Each beam was fully welded to specification and drilled, and a further QA check confirmed the plates, holes and alignments matched the engineer's requirements.

Finish and delivery

The steel was blasted and painted with a zinc phosphate primer to the required thickness, then hung in the yard to dry. The QA and loading teams made a final check that the bolts, steel-to-steel fixings, nuts, washers and packing plates were included. The beams were loaded onto our 30-metre Hiab lorry, and at 5am we set off for the Chelmsford site, where the beams were positioned at the rear of the property where the customer needed them.

• Beams positioned at the rear of the property, delivered within the same week as the order
